Digital racing allows up to 8 cars on two lanes. To be fair(equal power load), a digital race should have the same number of cars on track. Ghost cars are used to equalize the field. For example, in a field of 17 cars, the races would be run as follows: Race 1- 6 Drivers/2 Ghosts; Race 2-6/2; Race 3- 5/3. MMMR maintains a “Casper” fleet of 6 Porsches, with magnets. In the event of a driver dropping out of a race a ghost car is substituted.
A typical race meet has a practice and timing session, drivers' meeting, short qualifying heats, and a feature race of 30 min. or more followed by a 10 min. under card event usually a “Digital Racing of Tomorrow” development class race often experimenting with formats such as reverse grids, spaced grids and other handicapping ideas. Race meets typically run from 11 A.M. to @ 8 P.M. Entry is free and whenever possible, late entries are incorporated into the event. Free food is provided.
Regarding races with pit stops, any driver who pushes another competitor’s car out of the pits with their car will incur a five-lap penalty. A pit marshal will be provided for races with pit stops to help with pit congestion. Drivers choose driver position in reverse qualifying order. Only one car may be used in an event. In case of a mechanical failure a ghost car will be substituted to equalize the power draw between heats.
All races (heats and mains) are run in reverse order (C, B, A, main). A track’s pit entry gate should be taped to prevent crashes due to defective gates in races without pit stops. An additional Carrera Control Unit is always provided so racers can adjust power and brake settings or re-flash during a race without stopping track action. It also provides back-up in case of a CU failure.
Unless a practice\timing session is being run to test a fuel stop program, sessions should be run in five min. segments and lap times recorded if desired to keep an accurate account. To be accepted, a time must be done in company with other drivers and not challenged as an anomalous time.
