The final MMMR stock car race for the Chip Cup can only be described as the Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. The fuel program went haywire by making the B Main drivers pit far more than the A main drivers resulting in an ugly and skewed 19 lap difference between last in the A main and first in the B main. The race directors were pleased with the newly installed left pit lane but it turned out badly because nobody thought to test the fuel track which was installed bass-ackwards. Restart, more time wasted.
Now the good stuff. Craig, David and Reggie put on a sparkling display of driving talent which featured an unrelenting furious 40 minute feud with few wrecks. All three lead multiple times and there was never more than a lap separating them. As with many digital races, it came down to sections with Craig emerging victorious. With three wins out of four races, he is a worthy champion for MMMR’s first points series. The drivers all loved the reversed Fireside course and many thanks are due to Kevin for reversing the track in a short time.
The DROT race was to be mini endurance race with the focus on creating teams, but due to several drivers leaving after the awards ceremony and the late hour this race was postponed.

Craig cemented his position at the top of the Chip Cup championship with a sparkling drive to first in the Choco Chip 30. During the first third of the race Reggie and Dave kept it close, both of them took turns leading but Craig pulled away to win by a lap and a half. Cookie had a strong run to fourth and Mike did his customary finish in the top six from the B main. Bo, Tim, and Kevin produced a race long battle for eighth, all three finishing on the same lap. First timer Brian won the top rookie award. The small field of eleven cars did not cause a reduction of close racing. The fuel program was much improved and required only three to four stops. Chef “Chuck-Wagon Bill R Dee” provided another fine spread to keep all well fed.

The development feature of this ten minute race is the so called “analog pit stop”. This is a timed stop with a count-down kitchen timer. The game theory idea is to model real racing with a stop so the driver can actually work on their car. This concept was tried out previously and many racers mishandled the timers and expressed dissatisfaction. So, this race required a 30 sec. single stop where a driver could clean the braids and tires on their car for practice using the timers. Nobody had problems this time and this idea will be used in the future, perhaps in conjunction with the computer- generated fuel program. David won the race in a close duel with Tom and Reggie. Checking the sections in the results will show that they all finished almost on the same lap. Another typically tight digital race. Tim continues to improve with an excellent B main win. Brian, in only his second race finished on the same lap as experienced drivers Kevin and Damone.
