Carrera Classic NASCAR Race
12 racers were on hand for this 30 min. event. We welcomed Everett and Richard for their first race and Scott and Ernie returned for their second race. Craig and Ron battled for the win for most of the A main. Craig would open a slim lead but then his car kept losing a front wheel which allowed Ron to move to the front. This happened twice but Craig prevailed. Tom completed the podium with a win in the B main. Scott continues to show improvement to finish fourth and the Silver category win. How soon does he reach gold? Six- year- old Everett was the star of the race, displaying an attention span far beyond his years. He won the Rookie Award (and beat his Dad as well), finishing 10th. The races included one ghost car. No fuel program was used. Scott, Tim, and Brian made up the Silver podium.

Grand National 30
12 racers were back at Goodloe Model Motorsports Park (2.0) for our first Carrera Classic NASCAR race since the Chip Cup series last year. This was a 30 min sprint with no fuel program. Five drivers were at Goodloe for the first time and acquitted themselves well on this difficult circuit that features Carrera, Scaletrix, and Scaleauto track. The B main was lead from start to finish by Cook ahead of Scott. The drive of the race was provided by Tom L. who fell to last after having to flash his car twice. He was ready to retire but then roared back to claim third only six sections behind Scott. Craig jumped into the A main lead that he increased through the race. Behind were Ron, Dave, Tom R., and Reg scrabbling for second. First Reg dropped back and then Ron as both experienced mechanical troubles. Dave and Tom R. “ding donged” back and forth for second with Dave prevailing by three quarters of a lap. D.J., after qualifying a promising 5th, never got to grips with the track and fell back. Ron and Reg’s trouble allowed Cook, Scott and Tom L. into the top six overall. There were six gold and six silver drivers with Scott, Tom L. and D.J. taking the Silver podium. Ernie won the rookie award (Carrera digital car) for running his first race with MMMR. Stock cars and Porsches return to Goodloe on May 10th.

Craig made it a double with his win in the 10 min. Porsche 917 race. Not only is he good but lucky as well. This is the 3rd Porsche race that he has chosen a fast (winning) car. Scott demonstrated his race-craft with a splendid race finishing second ahead of Reg, Cook, Ron, and Dave, all of them on the same lap across two mains! The closest finish was D.J.’s 2 section victory over Tom L. for 8th place. Yet another demonstration of how close digital racing can be.

Fireside Four Hour
MMMR has successfully held the first DiSCA race in MD and perhaps on the east coast USA. This four-hour race for three (or more) drivers was held at Fireside Raceway in Hanover MD on March 1st. The only downside was the slim 4 car field. Smart Race timing and scoring was used including the fuel program. This was set so there was a pit stop every 30 min. or so. The race was run with no track calls and one 10 sec. penalty for rough driving. The first hour featured a three-car battle with Aspect and KWF fighting for the lead until both were overhauled by the Bohica machine. The second hour saw the Bohica team pull out an 8 lap lead with fine driving by Bo. KWF eventually opened a gap over Aspect racing for second. The third hour featured a guest appearance of Craig who took over the 4th place car and schooled everyone the track, making up a lap on the leading car. If the Bohica boys had any plans of an easy win over the rookie KWF team, they were shattered as KWF pulled back over 5 laps and made the final hour a nail biter with a splash and go stop needed to get home. Dave timed his stop perfectly and finished first by a little over two laps and 5% fuel. The KWF team of RC racers adapted well to digital racing and are eagerly waiting to race some more. Bob won the rookie award as his driving steadily improved through-out the race. Team Ideal, the all-rookie team kept fighting and improving all 4hrs. Third grader Harley Lowman has the distinction of being the first MMMR paid professional marshal and concentrated on her section of track like the pro that she is, and was only hampered by her reach!

The race was a testament to the drivers' skill and determination, with Ron taking the top spot from the A Main, showcasing his consistency and speed. Craig gave him a great run, but Ron would not be denied. Bo put in an impressive performance, securing his podium position, with Reggie only track segments behind. The event was a thrilling display of competitive racing. Cook deserves special mention for his use of a “pit early and often” strategy. Good racing and a good time!

Damone and Cook also had a close battle, with only track sections separating them at the end. The race was a testament to the competitive spirit of the Maryland Model Motor Racing community.
